Welcome Home

My Fellow Brethren,

Greetings and welcome to the 2007-2008 Mischigonong Lodge year.  Within this letter I would like to address my goals for the next year, offer my thanks to individuals and extend to you, as a member of the lodge, a challenge of leadership.

One of my main goals for this next year is creating a ceremonial dance team for both the Ordeal and Brotherhood ceremonies. This goal has already begun to become a reality, as several interested members have contacted me already! To insure complete accuracy for the dances to be performed, I have already contacted some Native American dance instructors. Creating a dance team would help to spark interest in ceremonial dealings and attempt to make the Ordeal and Brotherhood experience even more meaningful. Another goal involves the upcoming national service projects called Arrowcorp5. The Order of the Arrow and the United States Forest Service are teaming up to create the single largest service project to ever take place. I would like our lodge to be a major contributor to this great opportunity to service by sending one of largest contingents in the region to participate at one of the five sites. The most important goal for this next year is to begin implementing the recently announced 2008-2012 National Order of the Arrow strategic plan. This plan is called “Living the Legacy” and is composed of four main points.. These points are as follows:

  1. Serve and support scouting
  2. Develop leaders of character
  3. Promote outdoor adventure
  4. Be an active, honored Brotherhood

I would like to extend my gratitude to a few individuals who have helped me throughout my journey to this leadership position. First I would like to thank perhaps the most influential person in my life, my father, David Shriver. He provides continuous support in any situation, and provides rides to and from lodge occurrences without the benefit of being financially reimbursed. Also, Mr. Frank Welling is an amazing friend and supporter. He has always been and remains a key motivator in my quest to become a great leader. The day of my induction to this position he began immediately counseling and aiding me and it is very much appreciated. I would also like to extend a thank you to my chapter, Kweni-Kuwe. Through their amazing support and counsel during this past year. Lastly, I would to thank all members of the Order of the Arrow for their continued support of the council and the lodge. None of the lodge functions could work without all of you.

As an additional note I would like to challenge each and every one of you reading this to get active within the lodge. I invite you to fully reap the benefits that the Order of the Arrow has to offer. There are numerous committees that need youth and adult alike in order to function properly and ultimately benefit the whole lodge. If you are interested in serving the lodge in any way, shape or form please let either Mr.Stoppa or I know as soon as possible.

Yours in Brotherhood,

Storm Shriver
